Problem Solving

Mid-way through our production stage, we had to make an advert for our magazine to go in our friends magazine. But we ended up accidentally creating a front page which is better and more professional than our current one. the one on the left is the one we had and the right being the one we just created as an ad. This is just a quick mock up and I will take up more time to edit it and see if I can make it look even better.

This is the edited version and i think it looks much better than the original front cover we had. It looks much more professional and the colours are a lot more aesthetically pleasing.

After close consideration and peer feedback we decided to change the font colour because pink would not be seen from far away. This is what we came up with:

We chose white, sail and green for the colour of text as we feel it can be seen more easily, and adds pops of brightness to the front cover. The green is also relevant because of this greenery in the photograph.

Another problem we had encountered was the size of the image. I had accidentally made it too small which proved to be a problem when trying to put it on InDesign. The way I solved this was completely recreating the front page to the size the front page should be, but this also gave me a second chance to correct anything I wanted to, which was the colour corrections of the initial photo. After this was done, I more or less copied everything else in, but I did have to change the font which wasn't too much of a problem because I prefer the thicker look of this font compared to our last one.

Production Logs

This link takes you to my production logs. These are important for my project because it shows how much I am progressing throughout production.

Problems

There were a few limitations to my FEP. One problem being that my front page was the wrong size for my magazine, therefore I had to fix it. The way I fixed it was by recreating it on Photoshop to the correct size. Another problem I had was publishing the magazine to a flick-through website. The one that was recommended to me tried charging me to put it on, and I do not have the funding to do so as it was very expensive, so I had to find an alternative, which I did in the end. But this was still an inconvenience nether the less. Another problem I had was losing motivation. There were parts of this project where I just wanted to give up because I didn’t really know what I was doing on InDesign, but in the end, everything was worth it, I’ve created a magazine I’m proud of with the help from some peers and teachers.
